Restoration!
Soulton Hall’s story is intricately woven with the tumultuous events of the English Civil War (1642-1651). The household was Royalist, saw his estate become a target for both side, but Parliamentarian forces arrived too late for thier goal. Soulton Hall was ransacked, stripped of some of its treasures. Most poignantly, Old Sir Rowland’s library, a treasure trove of knowledge, was removed.
Following the Royalist defeat, a period of reconstruction began. A grand courthouse, a symbol of restored order, rose on the grounds of the damaged gret hall. The house itself underwent transformation.
