However, its charm extends beyond the silver screen. Long before its Hollywood close-up, this house played a significant, if less widely known, role in shaping a theatrical icon. The family provided crucial early encouragement to a young Judi Dench, fostering the talent that would blossom into the celebrated national treasure we know today.

Going further into its past, Benthall Hall also bears the marks of the tumultuous English Civil War. It was fortified for the Royalist cause, a testament to the allegiances of the time. Though never a major stronghold, the house was eventually the site of a scuffle, falling to Parliamentarian forces who even trained fire upon its walls. Intriguingly, after the Royalist defeat at Worcester, Benthall Hall was considered a potential refuge for the fleeing King Charles II, highlighting the enduring Royalist sympathies associated with the estate, despite the fact that the family residing there during the war were non-conformists.
