Recently, a trip to the nearby Iron Bridge offered a glimpse into a contrasting chapter of the Industrial Revolution.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the English Grand Tour included not just historical sites but marvels of the modern age. Ironbridge, a revolutionary feat of iron construction, undoubtedly featured on many an itinerary.
Today, the bridge remains impressive. Its cast iron arch gracefully spans the River Severn, a testament to the engineering genius of its time. It’s easy to imagine the awe it inspired in those early Grand Tourists.
Ironbridge signifies more than just a crossing. It’s a symbol of the Industrial Revolution, a period of immense change that reshaped England. Standing near it, one can’t help but ponder the ripple effect that began here.
