Visit of The High Sheriff of Shropshire

The High Sheriff of Shropshire is scheduled to visit Soulton Hall on 26 May, for a private visit.

This engagement will offer an occasion to appreciate the enduring character of this historic estate and its continuing contribution to the cultural and civic life of Shropshire.

Soulton Hall holds a notable historical link to the Shrievalty, as Mr. Thomas Hill, the esteemed builder of the Hall’s doorcase, served with distinction as High Sheriff of Shropshire in 1680.

The visit reflects the High Sheriff’s ongoing commitment to the communities and heritage of Shropshire.

The office of High Sheriff stands as a venerable institution with roots stretching back to Saxon times, predating even the Norman Conquest. Traditionally, the High Sheriff is a direct appointee of the Crown, a practice that continues to this day, signifying the enduring link between the monarch and the counties of England and Wales.

On Thursday, 10th April 2025, at St Michael’s Church, Little Ness, Shropshire, Jane Trowbridge JP was declared the new High Sheriff of Shropshire.

Ms. Trowbridge’s principal focus during her Shrieval year will be empowering young people in the county whose lives have been affected by challenging circumstances such as fragmented families, long-term unemployment, addiction, exploitation, domestic violence, and other forms of abuse.

Highlighting the presence of vulnerable youth despite Shropshire’s strong community spirit, Ms. Trowbridge, drawing on her experience as a magistrate, aims to support the dedicated individuals within local charities and organizations who tirelessly assist these young people facing mental health issues and the risk of criminalization. These unsung heroes will be a particular focus of her encouragement and support throughout her term.
