The history of this masterpiece is deeply woven into the heritage of our Shropshire landscape through figures like Sir Rowland Hill.

The multi-award-winning Illyria theatre company is touring the region this August, bringing this iconic comedy to life in the great outdoors. This is a fantastic opportunity for the people of Shropshire and our neighbours to access a vital piece of our shared cultural heritage without needing to travel far.

Located just over the border, this is a perfect option for those living on the edge of the county or looking for a weekend outing.

What You Need to Know Before You Go

Illyria has built an unmatched reputation over three decades for outstanding outdoor theatre. To help you plan your evening, here are the key details for these performances:

  • The Performance: A fast-paced, joyful production featuring a brilliant 5-strong cast of classically trained professional actors.

  • Running Time: Approximately 140 minutes, which includes a 20-minute interval.

  • Suitability: This is a family-friendly production recommended for all ages.

  • What to Pack: The action takes place entirely outdoors. Please bring your own low-backed chairs or rugs, and dress in suitable layers for a British summer evening.

  • Accessibility Note: The Dudmaston venue is wheelchair accessible over grass. Please note that the car park is approximately 500 metres from the main performance area. Only assistance dogs are permitted on site.
