We are delighted to share news of an upcoming exhibition by sculptor Jacob Chandler, taking place at the historic church of St James Garlickhythe in the City of London.

Meet Jacob Chandler, an inspiring artist we’ve championed. He navigates the challenges of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and colitis while also serving as a dedicated ambassador for others living with EDS.
Chandler’s work has exhibited across the UK and internationally, including exhibitions at Cambridge University, in important ecclesiastical contexts, London’s Mall Galleries, the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA), as well as galleries in New York, Moscow, and Athens.
St James Garlickhythe is a landmark Christopher Wren church, situated in the very parish where William Shakespeare lived during some of his time in London.
The venue recently hosted In Hoc Signo, a collaboration with Byrga Geniht, establishing a wonderful backdrop for contemporary sculpture within a setting rich in heritage.

The arms of the City of London (from St James Garlickhythe); and the golden sculpture ‘In Hoc Signo: II, Trinity’ (Chandler, Wenn and Syrett, 2025).
Jacob has enjoyed a close connection with Soulton Hall, having previously created our As You Like It dancers commission.
Following his recent work designing and crafting the trophies for the Invictus Games, this upcoming London exhibition represents another exciting milestone in his artistic journey. We understand that pieces from the As You Like It dancers series will be included in the show.

Of course, the dancers are not the only figures central to As You Like It. Rumours suggest that old Sir Rowland may also have captured Jacob’s creative attention, though the full shape of what that might bring remains to be revealed…
It is marvelous to see Jacob exhibiting his work in the heart of the City of London, bridging historic connections between Shropshire and the capital.

Speaking about the show Jacob said:
This exhibition is a prelude to my latest commission for a life size bronze figure in my multifaceted style.
The sculpture will draw upon the remarkable legacy of Sir Rowland Hill, the Shropshire born merchant, philanthropist and Lord Mayor of London, whose charitable legacy spanned education, healthcare and public infrastructure, influencing Tudor civic life as well as the cultural heritage of the country. Associated with Soulton Hall and the enduring story of As You Like It. Old Sir Rowland Hill and his legacy is of national significance.
Through this monumental sculpture and limited edition smaller table bronzes, I seeks to bring this influential historical figure to life for contemporary audiences, celebrating Hill legacy in both public art and private collections. James David Wenn and James Syrett of Byrga Geniht alongside Tim Ashton have been pivotal in the careful research that has made Old Sir Rowland Hill’s legacy apparent.
As a Shropshire born artist I have installed public sculptures throughout the UK, exhibited internationally, and been collected by the Birmingham Museum and supported by the Arts Council England. I was recently invited to design the Invictus Spirit Awards and am currently undertaking a commission of Old Sir Rowland Hill, for the City.
I hope that you will be able to drop in and see the exhibition will consist of several pieces from the Moments in Time body of work; as well as a taster of my Explorations of Flatland; and Printworks inspired by “As You Like It” and Soulton Hall.
