With a Severe Weather Warning in place for Shropshire and the arrival of Storm Goretti tomorrow, we are taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of our visitors and our farm team.
The Met Office has issued Amber and Yellow warnings for heavy snow and ice across North Shropshire starting Thursday afternoon (January 8th). Given the risk of heavy accumulations, drifting snow, and hazardous underfoot conditions, we have made the following decisions:
Formal Closure of All Permissive Paths
Effective immediately and for the duration of the severe weather, all permissive paths at Soulton are closed to the public. This includes the stone path to the Soulton Long Barrow and the paths north of the farm. Permissive access is granted at our discretion, and we must prioritize safety when conditions make these routes dangerous.
Keep Off the Farm
We ask that everyone stays clear of the farm and farm yards and working agricultural areas.
Safety Hazards: Snow can hide deep ditches, frozen troughs, and machinery.
Operational Access: Our team will be working around the clock to care for livestock and clear essential access routes.
General Care & Public Rights of Way
While we do not have the legal power to close Public Rights of Way (PROWs) that cross the estate, we strongly advise against using them until the storm has passed.
Paths may be hidden by snow, making navigation difficult.
Trees and branches are at risk of falling under the weight of snow and high winds.
If you must be out, please ensure you are wearing appropriate layers and have a way to contact help.
We will conduct a safety assessment once the weather settles and will post an update here as soon as the permissive paths are safe to reopen.
