To experience even a fraction of what those facing homelessness endure, Tim spent last night sleeping on the pavement at Guildhall Yard.

This was part of the Lady Mayoress’s Sleep Out, a powerful event that brings London’s homelessness crisis into sharp focus.

During her address at the Sleep Out Event, the Lady Mayoress powerfully invoked the words of William Shakespeare, a Londoner himself, quoting from King Lear:

‘…wheresoe’er you are,
That bide the pelting of this pitiless storm,
How shall your houseless heads and unfed sides,
Your looped and windowed raggedness defend
you
From seasons such as these? O, I have ta’en
Too little care of this.

This poignant passage, capturing the harsh realities of those without shelter, resonated deeply with the event’s purpose in addressing contemporary social issues and reminding everyone present that the struggle against homelessness is a long-standing one, even in the heart of the city Shakespeare called home.

Under the watchful gaze of Shakespeare's bust, Tim Ashton experiences a night on the streets for the Lady Mayoress's Sleep Out, raising funds and awareness for London's homeless.
