Soulton’s Candelabras Illuminate “Great Expectations”

And there was no daylight in the room, but it was all lighted up with candles.

As part of our ongoing support for the local arts community, we were able to loan some candelabras from Soulton Hall to Shrewsbury Youth Theatre for their production of “Great Expectations.”

SYT does wonderful work with young people in the community, and we’re always happy to support their efforts. We’re looking forward to seeing their take on Dickens’ classic story at The Walker Theatre.

Old Sir Rowland Hill’s Chair of Estate.

These particular candelabras usually reside by old Sir Rowland Hill’s chair here at Soulton Hall. Given his passion for education, his keen interest in drama (he was cousin of Shakespeare’s mother, found his way into As You Like It and relaxed the regulation of drama in the City of London as Lord Mayor!), and his deep love for Shropshire, we like to think he would heartily approve of their brief loan to Shrewsbury Youth Theatre.

It seems a fitting way to support the next generation of Shropshire talent and keep the spirit of storytelling alive.
