On St David’s Day we would like to celebrate a ‘sister house’ across the border in Wales.
Bach y Graig Farm was built in 1567 is the first brick built building in Wales, as commemorated on its original datestone.
It was built by Sir Richard Clough, a rich Mercer who handled Sir Thomas Gresham’s business in Antwerp. Both were friends and colleagues of ‘Old’ Sir Rowland Hill, who built Soulton Hall a few years earlier as a retreat from London life.
