A Shropshire company has stepped in to repair the gravestone of Ebenezer Scrooge, just in time for the festive season.

After his harrowing encounters with the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, Scrooge commits to a life of kindness, empathy, and social responsibility.
Stonemason Ed Jones described the repair process as challenging but not unusual, apart from the unique name on the grave. While the stone won’t look exactly as it did before, the repairs will ensure it remains legible and visually appealing.
The restoration comes as a relief to many, especially during the Christmas season when the gravestone is a popular attraction for fans of the film. Tours are held regularly to showcase the remaining sets from the iconic movie, and the Scrooge gravestone is a key part of the experience.
With the repairs nearly complete, visitors to St Chad’s Church in Shrewsbury can once again pay their respects to the fictional character and admire the historic cultural item.

Charles Dickens visited Shrewsbury twice during his lifetime. His first visit was in 1852, when he performed a benefit theatrical night to raise money for the Guild of Literature and Art. His second visit was in 1858, as part of a national reading tour and gave a reading at Shrewsbury’s Music Hall.
