The Blue Room, boasting the finest view of the Epidaurus Court, has returned to its traditional blue color scheme. This historic courtyard once served as the stage for Sir Rowland Hill’s 16th-century theatrical productions and pageantry.
The Blue Room holds a fascinating detail – the seams in the floorboards.
These seams in the floor, a recurring pattern in Soulton Hall’s architecture, echo the nine-grid design visible on the east and west facades through the string courses and tower-like projections. These turrets are not seen on the north and south faces. This repetition is another element of Sir Rowland Hill’s “sermons in stones” philosophy, reflecting his desire to embed coded messages within the very structure of the house.
