A Soulton Celebration: Honoring the Bard
At Soulton, there is a a centuries-old tradition which involves lighting candles on the dancing pavement associated with the Dance of Harmony, a choreographic piece renowned for its use in Shakespeare’s As You Like It. To commemorate the 400th anniversary of the publication of the First Folio, the Ashton family chose to illuminate the pavement with lamps, a rare occurrence.
Though the family decides when to illuminate the pavement, events of this nature are always announced publicly, allowing the local community to join in. Lately it was done for the passing of Elizabeth II and the coronation of Charles III.
This decision provided a special opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate Shakespeare’s enduring legacy at Soulton, a place deeply connected to the literary giant through its association with As You Like It.
