Following our recent briefings to Shropshire Council—where the multi-year research into the legacy of St. Erkenwald and the Old St. Paul’s stone formally entered the public democratic record yesterday—we would like to share a brief update regarding another part of theis work of decernement and consultation. As a matter of courtesy and transparency, we notified the Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury at Lambeth Palace regarding the ongoing findings at Soulton Hall.
We are grateful for the Palace’s response which indicated a recognition of the “historic significance” of this work. We are heartened by their appreciation for the care, seriousness, and ecumenical spirit with which this matter is being handled. In accordance with established ecclesiastical practice, Lambeth naturally deferrs to the Diocese of Lichfield for the ongoing assessment and verification process.
We welcome this clarity and remain committed to working within this “appropriate framework” alongside our diocesan partners and a diverse group of stakeholders.
