The news that Papyrus has closed its doors after more than thirty years of dedicated work leaves a heavy silence in its wake.

The sudden collapse of such an important lifeline, driven by rising demand and dwindling sector funding, feels devastating for everyone who understands the fragile paths young people walk.

Our own deep concern and perspective stem from holding a tender memory close. We were profoundly moved by the loss of the talented touring actor who performed here in Mid Summer Night’s Dream in 2020—a great tallent whose passing brought the hardships faced by youth into sharper focus during the dark isolation of the pandemic.

Remembering that loss makes the disappearance of this crucial support network all the more painful.

While administrators explore whether any parts of the service can eventually transfer to new partners, help remains available right now for anyone who needs to talk or find safety:

“Give me your hands, if we be friends,

And Robin shall restore amends.”
