From Soulton to the Forest: A Local Look at As You Like It
There are several interesting connections between As You Like It and North Shropshire. These concern the play’s charicter Old Sir Rowland who is based on Sir Rowland Hill of Soulton – who was a cousin of Shakespeare’s mother. Moreover, the play is based on a book titled “Rosalynde” written by Thomas Lodge who also has connections to Soulton. This link links the source material for the play with its Shropshire.
