In light of recent events in the UK and the understandable concern felt by people in the general community and in particular across the sectors we work in – agriculture, hospitality, heritage, art, and culture and so on – we want to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Equity, diversity and inclusion

We take as our starting point that there is a lot of work to do to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion.

We are committed to doing as much of that work as we can, both inwardly (where we to continue to improve on the strides that we are making to increase diversity and inclusion) and externally, on a much broader scale, across the sectors we work and engage in.

In this respect, we view diversity as wide ranging and intersectional, including neurodiversity, diversity of race, colour, nationality, ethnic origin, sex, gender (identity and expression), socio-economic background, sexuality, religion or belief, disability, and marital or civil partnership status.

We believe unequivocally in the inherent fairness of treating all people with equity and ensuring that they are given an effective opportunity to participate. 

Visitors who do not treat others here (be they staff, other guests and visitors, or family) with respect around these considerations will be violating a fundamental principle of this place.

We believe that significant challenge can be in the tendency to define ourselves and others in oppositional terms.

Rather than celebrating our shared heritage and accomplishments,  overemphasis on differences can do harm, leading to a superficial understanding of the complex factors that contribute to collective identity and well-being.

We feel that a more constructive approach might be found in prioritizing positive action and the building of a shared future. By focusing on achievements and aspirations, rather than divisions and grievances, we can create a more united and prosperous society.

It is essential that we project a strong, positive image of our nation and local communities: one that inspires and unites.
