We were very touched to be sent the following sonnet from a poet who wishes to remain anonymous. It was written to honour the up-comming special opening of the As You Like It Wood to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
IN Soulton Wood, where sunlight strains to peek,Through ancient oaks, a timeless green domain,I wandered, lost in reverie’s sweet streak,And found, unseen, Arden’s verdant reign. Here, Lodge’s Rosalynde, with graceful guise,Could slip from court, disguised in shepherd’s dress,And find Orlando, love in shepherd’s eyes,A sylvan idyll, woodland’s sweet redress. The rustling leaves, a whispered stage’s cue,Where Celia’s laughter mingles with the birds,And Touchstone’s wit, with folly ever new,Echoes in rustling leaves and trickling fords.Oh, Soulton Wood, your secret now we hold,A timeless tale in emerald light unfolds.– Anon
Tickets for this, the VERY FIRST public opening of the wood may be obtained here.
