Sacres Stones
In 2014, a new chapter unfolded in the story of barrow building. Founded by Toby, Mark, and Martin, Sacred Stones emerged with a mission: to revive the ancient practice of constructing these strructure first seen in the Neolithic and Bronzes.
Once used for burials and ceremonies, barrows had vanished from the British landscape for over 5,000 years. Sacred Stones aimed to change that.
The journey began at Tim Daw’s Wiltshire farm in All Cannings. Here, amidst rolling hills steeped in history, Martin and his masons embarked on a groundbreaking project – the first long barrow built in Britain since the prehistoric era. Completed in 2014, this beautiful barrow is testament to their dedication and expertise.
In the years since, a barrow has been built by this team at Soulton, at Willow Row, near Banbury, and will be built in Nottinghamshire.

Pinnacle Award-winning stone mason Martin Fildes is a leader in the field. A co-founder of Sacred Stones, he is the Build Director and is responsible for delivering these incredible structures.
Toby Angel is the Managing Director of Sacred Stones. He describes himself as a journeyman! He’s been fortunate enough to have worked all his life and enjoyed working on farms, his father’s design consultancy and latterly with a handful of investment committees. His passion for the countryside has been constant and he is very grateful to have returned to the environment he loves most, in our natural landscapes.
