A C20th copy of Rosalynde, Euphues’ Golden Legacie (1590) has recently been donated to the collection of Lady Maragret Hall, Oxford which had been at Soulton for some years.
Rosalynde holds a significant place in literary history, not least as the primary source for Shakespeare’s As You Like It.
Libraries are the custodians of our shared intellectual heritage, and contributing to that legacy, even in a small way, is a privilege.

This text is notably the primary source material for Shakespeare’s As You Like It. Of particular interest to the college, Thomas Lodge Jr.’s boyhood is linked to Soulton Hall in Shropshire, and thus to the Forest of Arden itself. In the generation before Shakespeare, Soulton Hall was home to ‘Old’ Sir Rowland Hill, a cousin to Mary Arden, who authored the settlement that published the Geneva Bible.
