The magnificent anointing screen, designed by Shrewsbury’s Aidan Hart, was a focal point, a testament to the county’s creative contribution. And the screen’s beauty was enhanced by the work of other Shropshire artists.

The story behind the screen’s creation, revealed at a special event, highlighted the collaborative effort of numerous skilled individuals, bringing Aidan Hart’s vision to life.
Among those individuals was Tim Royall, a sculptor, stone & memorial mason, carver & letter cutter. He created the regal eagle finials that adorned the tops of the anointing screen. These finials added a sense of majesty to the screen, and were a very important visual element. It was also noted that Tim Royall visited Shropshire Falconry to observe eagles, in order to make the sculptures as accurate, and as beautiful as possible.
Notably, the eagles from Shropshire Falconry are regularly flown over Soulton Hall, adding a layer of local connection to the inspiration behind the finials.
The event emphasized the meticulous process, involving individuals like Aidan Hart, the Royal School of Needlework, and Pete Tarrant. The sheer scale of the project, with its 1.3 million stitches and sustainable materials, was a testament to dedication. Adding to the Shropshire connection, Tim Royall’s meticulously crafted eagle finials, inspired by observations at Shropshire Falconry, provided a powerful visual element.
