Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings Reopens After Major Restoration

The Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings has reopened to the public following an eight-year, £28 million restoration project.

The 225-year-old building, a significant example of industrial heritage, was officially reopened in November 2022.

We were delighted to be invited to the official Historic England celebration of this event, in the presence of dignitaries, including Heritage Minister Lord Parkinson of Whitley Bay and the Chair of Historic England, Sir Laurie Magnus.

The restoration project, a partnership between Historic England, Shropshire Council, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and other stakeholders, has transformed the site, which had been closed for 35 years. The Flaxmill Maltings, originally a flax mill and later a maltings, now provides public access to a key part of Shrewsbury’s industrial past.
