In collaboration with James D. Wenn of Byrgah Geniht Ltd, the Barnet Room has undergone a renewed interpretation.
This project emphasizes the room’s Tudor character, highlighted by the exquisite Rowland Hill-era paneling featuring tiny eight pointed stars (echoing the dance pattern in As You Like It).
The built to match 17th-century panneling further enrich the space, creating an environment that would have been familiar to Sir Rowland Hill, the publisher of the Geneva Bible, his associates, and the inspirations for Shakespeare’s As You Like It.
To solidify the Tudor ambiance, 16 bold Tudor rose-painted panels have been added to the frieze above the existing paneling. It shoud be acknowledged that during the English Civil War/War of the Three Kingdoms, the house was ransacked, and wealthier individuals like Hill would likely have adorned the walls with fine fabrics, a more elite decorative choice at the time.
