DESCRIPTION:Following the unanimous support for the historic motion passed earlier this summer celebrating the estate’s literary and historical links to William Shakespeare\, an additional motion concerning Soulton Hall heritage has been formally tabled for the upcoming full council meeting on 24 September. \nBrought forward by Councillor Alan Holford and supported by Councillors Bernie Bentick\, Duncan Borrowman\, Adam Fejfer\, Gary Groves\, Ruth Houghton\, Heather Kidd\, Rosie Radford\, Alex Wagner\, and Alison Williams\, the complete text of the motion reads as follows: \n\nCouncil Motion: Soulton Hall Heritage\nMotion received from Councillor Alan Holford and supported by Bernie Bentick\, Duncan Borrowman\, Adam Fejfer\, Gary Groves\, Ruth Houghton\, Heather Kidd\, Rosie Radford\, Alex Wagner and Alison Williams \nThis Council: \n\n\nAcknowledges the cultural memory of Saint Erkenwald and the high altar stone of Old St Paul’s Cathedral is deeply held in both Shropshire and London\, and notes recent research suggests that physical items associated with them may have been placed at Soulton Hall for safe keeping. \n\n\nObserves that if these items were translated\, their protection formed part of a broader pattern of statecraft by Sir Rowland Hill of Soulton (Lord Mayor of London 1549–50)\, who repeatedly used his authority to preserve endangered books\, records\, and cultural heritage\, offering a principled response to the destruction\, violence\, and profound loss of human life during the upheavals of the sixteenth century. \n\n\nExpresses gratitude to James D. Wenn and James Syrett of Byrga Geniht Ltd\, and to Aed Thompson\, for their research and expertise in bringing these matters to light. \n\n\nExpresses thanks to the Ashton family and their ancestors. Their continuous care of Soulton Hall has preserved this history during dangerous times\, and they are now presenting it to the public with care and discernment. \n\n\nRecognises that these events offer a rare chance to build understanding and bridge divides between different faith communities today. \n\n\nHighlights the ancient Quit Rents ceremony – a shared tradition between Shropshire and the City of London spanning over 800 years where these historical matters were formally addressed during the 813th ceremony. \n\n\nAffirms that Shropshire deeply values its close relationship with the City of London built over centuries and continuing today. \n\n\n\nInterested visitors and local community members may consult the Shropshire Council committee services pages as the official agenda is published in the week prior to the event.

DESCRIPTION:Soulton Hall is opening publicly the Prayer Room and Aedicule spaces not only for access but also with a more complete contextualisation than has been appropriate hitherto. \nThis unique location within Soulton Hall will now be included in select Historic Houses Association Tours and Heritage Presentations and is presented specifically as a historic\, cultural\, and ecumenical artifact. \nThe Prayer Room\, located within Soulton Hall\, offers ticket holders a significant opportunity to inspect an area of profound spiritual and historical importance. \nHenceforth\, access to these parts of the house is provided to anyone with a valid ticket\, on a basis of heritage presentation and cultural experience. \nThis facilitates access that is not contingent upon any specific faith or religious stakeholder commitment\, but the family wishes to be clear that parts of Soulton Hall that have this valency being made available in this way for the first time in 475 years is only possible after an extended and respectful period of ecumenical engagement with faith communities whose stories bifurcated in nature around the legacy of these rooms. \nWe wish to be clear that the physical areas of Soulton Hall that have impact on people of faith are respected. \nThey are not to be treated in a sensationalist or gimmicky way.  No phorography is permitted. \nThe Ashton family wishes to acknowledge that making this space available for general public inspection is a major step. \nThis decision was only finalized once they were satisfied that all appropriate respect and consideration had been given to the religious stakeholders involved in the Hall’s complex and unique ecumenical history.  \nThis approach ensures that Soulton Hall’s commitment to heritage preservation is balanced with its responsibility to spiritual integrity.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for this special event in Whitehall\, supported by Soulton Hall and taking place at the Farmer’s Club\, \nJames D. Wenn of Byrga Geniht will deliver a new public lecture focusing on the deep\, hidden thread of geometry in British design. \nMr. Wenn will explore how the rhombic dodecahedron—the natural shape of the garnet crystal—has been referenced in British art and architecture across six centuries. Through historical texts\, 3D animations\, and the biographies of the people behind the designs\, James D. Wenn will demonstrate the unbroken philosophical thread connecting some of Britain’s most influential buildings—some still standing\, some ruined\, and some lost altogether.
